Muraka, meaning “coral” in Dhivehi, is the singular most extraordinary hotel room on the planet. Launched in 2019 after five years of development, it required engineering solutions that had never been attempted in hospitality before.
The suite occupies two levels. The upper level contains a master bedroom, living room, and outdoor deck at water level, with sweeping views across the Indian Ocean. A spiral staircase descends to the lower level — a curved bedroom and bathroom built 5 metres below the ocean’s surface, enclosed entirely by curved acrylic panels that provide a 180-degree view of the living reef.
Guests fall asleep watching reef sharks, rays, and thousands of tropical fish move past. The lighting is carefully calibrated not to disturb the marine ecosystem while still providing enough illumination to see clearly into the water.
Muraka comes with a complete private staff: a personal butler, a dedicated chef, and a dive instructor. The rate includes unlimited access to Conrad’s diving facilities and spa, plus a selection of excursions — twilight dolphin cruises, private sandbank picnics, guided snorkelling on the outer reef.
Conrad Maldives operates active coral restoration programs, and Muraka’s construction was designed to minimise environmental impact. Guests can join reef monitoring sessions during their stay — a concrete contribution to a marine ecosystem they are sleeping inside.
