Ferienwaggons Zittauer Schmalspurbahn

The Ferienwaggons are converted railway carriages that the Zittauer Schmalspurbahn rents out as holiday apartments. They stand at stations of the narrow-gauge steam railway in the Zittau Mountains in Saxony, in the Kurort Jonsdorf and Kurort Oybin stations, so the trains are part of the view.

The carriages

Inside, each carriage has a kitchen with a cooker, fridge, coffee machine and microwave, a private bathroom with a WC and shower, and a living area with seating and a television. The terrace is positioned to watch the steam railway at work from close by. The railway operator markets its stays as a way to experience the steam railway up close and to stay in style.

Other rooms at the railway

The railway also lets a guesthouse, Pension Zum Bahnel, in the station building at Kurort Jonsdorf, which has been known by that name for more than a decade, and a holiday apartment called Am Wasserhäuschen at Kurort Oybin station. These are separate from the carriages.

Season and perks

The Jonsdorf carriage is listed from Easter to July. A booking of five nights includes a free weekly ticket for the Zittauer Schmalspurbahn for one person per stay.

Practical notes

The stay suits anyone who wants to watch steam trains from the doorstep. Ask the railway which carriage is available on your dates and which station it stands at, since Jonsdorf and Oybin both have carriages. The railway runs steam trains through the Zittau Mountains, so a stay can be paired with a ride on the line.
