Archipelago Igloos

Archipelago Igloos is one glass igloo, built as a floating suite for two in the waters around Helsinki. Its biggest feature is a floor-to-ceiling view of the sky and the sea around it. Inside are a double bed, a kitchen, a foldable dining table, food storage and a toilet; outside, a terrace has a gas grill, a swimming ladder and a rowing boat for guests to use.

Summer on the water

From 4 May to 30 October the floating igloo is anchored in the bay between Vallisaari and Kuninkaansaari islands. You reach Vallisaari by public ferry from Lyypekinlaituri, then walk 400 metres to Torpedolahti, where a rowing boat waits to take you out to the igloo. The ferry back to the city centre leaves from the same bay. Guests are asked to give their preferred check-in time when booking.

The igloo has a small gas stove that suits boiling water, and guests can bring their own food. In summer there are stand-up paddleboards and kick bikes to use.

Winter on the ice

In winter the unit moves to the Sipoo archipelago and rests on the ice. Optional winter extras include snowmobile tours and ice-floating tours, which the operator arranges for guests who want to do more than sleep on the ice.

Practicalities

The igloo has free Wi-Fi. Arrival is by public ferry or private boat from the centre of Helsinki.

There is only one unit, so dates can be limited. Ask about the season you want, since the location and the activities change between summer and winter.
