Splendid Cave Hotel

Splendid Cave Hotel in Ortahisar is a mixed property, and it is worth being clear about that from the start. The hotel’s website lists twelve rooms. Ten of them carry the words “cave room” in their names, and two, rooms 203 and 401, are listed as plain Standard Double Rooms. So the cave experience applies to most, but not all, of the rooms.

The rooms

The cave rooms come in several grades. The site lists a Superior Suit Cave Room (306), a Suit Cave Room (201), Deluxe Double Cave Rooms (303, 207, 208 and 204) and Standard Double Cave Rooms (402, 302, 301 and 205). Each room listing mentions a TV, a telephone and a minibar. Ask the hotel what each room is like before you pick one.

When you book, specify a cave room by name or number. If you want the full cave experience, avoid the two standard rooms.

The hotel is in Ortahisar, a village in central Cappadocia.

Practical notes

The website shows a transfers page and a reservation page, and lets you view prices in Turkish lira, US dollars or euros. Ask the hotel what is included before you book.

This is a sensible option if you want a modest cave stay in a quieter village than the main tourist hub and do not mind that a couple of rooms are conventional. It is less suited to travellers who want a fully carved property.
