Why it’s on the list

  • Ten private bungalows raised above the jungle floor
  • On the Palotoa river at the edge of Manu National Park, in the Manu Biosphere Reserve
  • Guided jungle walks, kayaking, tubing and caiman spotting
  • A 30 m observation tower

Robles Treehouse Lodge is an eco-lodge at the edge of Manu National Park in Peru, set within the Manu Biosphere Reserve and surrounded by rainforest and the Palotoa River. It is run by Manu Rainforest Peru, a local family business that has organised tours in the park since 2006.

The bungalows

The lodge has ten private bungalows, raised above the jungle floor in the treehouse style. Each has a private bathroom with hot showers, and the lodge runs on solar power with Wi-Fi available. There is a dining area where you can enjoy the panoramic river views.

Things to do

Guided activities include jungle walks, kayaking, tubing and spotting caiman. A 30 m observation tower gives a view over the forest canopy. The lodge sits in one of the most biodiverse regions of the world, and the local guides lead the way.

Getting there

The lodge is reached by road and boat, around 250 km from Cusco. That is a long transfer, so the journey is part of the trip and is worth planning as such. Cusco sits at more than 10,800 feet above sea level, and the operator’s own guidance advises acclimatising before heading out.

Who it suits

The lodge suits wildlife lovers and adventurous travellers who are comfortable with a remote setting. Small group travel is how the operator works. Ask about transfers from Cusco and what is included in your package before you book, since the lodge is part of a tour operator’s programme. The 30 m tower and the river activities are the features most guests come for.
