Real Castello di Verduno is a hotel and restaurant in the Langhe, the wine country of Piedmont. Since 1953 the guest rooms have occupied part of the castle, the adjoining Castalderia and a guest annex called Nando Foresteria.
The castle wing
The wing was renovated in the 1730s by the Marchese Carlo Luigi Caisotti to a design by the architect Juvarra, and in 1953 the Burlotto family turned it into a hotel and restaurant. The ground floor holds the old kitchen and the restaurant’s dining rooms, and the upper floors have six rooms: two suites, three junior suites and a double. Those rooms can only be reached by the old staircases, and the views take in the landscape of the Langhe.
Only these six rooms are inside the castle. The other rooms are in the Castalderia and the Foresteria annexes, so ask for a castle room when you book if the historic wing is what you want. The hotel notes that each room has its own personality, thanks to its furnishings.
Rooms in the castle
Suite 3, on the piano nobile, is a very large historic room with a bright entrance sitting room, a spacious bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with shower, and historic spaces and furnishings are kept as they were. Junior Suite 4 is also on the piano nobile and keeps its original upholstery and furniture. It has two large connecting rooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds, and a small shower room deliberately built into a large wall cupboard so as not to disturb the proportions of the rooms.
Room 5 is the smallest in the castle but, being on a corner, the brightest. Its panorama sweeps from west to north across the Tanaro valley and the Alpine arc.
