Guacamayo Ecolodge is a set of wooden huts in the primary rainforest of the Cuyabeno Reserve, in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The lodge describes itself as combining ecological comfort with the nature around it, and it is sold mainly as multi-day packages that include the tours.

The huts

Several hut types are available. The Papagayo Hut is a double room in the central part of the lodge with a view of the primary forest; each room has electricity, a private bathroom and mosquito nets. The Trogon Hut sits at the front of the lodge, with a private room for a couple, a sitting area with a balcony overlooking the river, a full bathroom and sockets to charge devices.

Guides and tours

The guides are local, certified tourism professionals who speak English and Spanish during the tours. They are trained in safety and first aid and know the flora, fauna, geography and history of Cuyabeno. The kitchen prepares traditional, vegetarian and vegan meals.

Packages and getting there

The lodge lists packages of three days and two nights, four days and three nights, and five days and four nights. To reach it, travellers take a bus from Quito to Lago Agrio, which takes eight to nine hours, and are then transferred to a meeting point.

Before you book

The lodge is remote, so allow for the long journey. Ask about the hut type if you want a balcony over the river or forest, and confirm the meeting point and transfer time when you book, since the tours are part of the package.
