Göreme Valley Cave House

Göreme Valley Cave House calls itself “your home away from home” and is a guesthouse rather than a large hotel. The cave element is only partial: the official site lists three underground cave rooms among its standard, family and suite rooms, so the majority of rooms are conventional.

The rooms

There are four room categories. The Cave Rooms are described as authentic rooms carved into real rock, designed for two or three people. The Suite Rooms have a king or queen bed and expansive windows with views of rock formations and, per the hotel, hot air balloons; they too suit two or three. The Standard Rooms are individually designed in traditional Anatolian style with king or twin beds, again for two or three. The Family Rooms, decorated in the same style, take groups of four to seven. All rooms have Wi-Fi.

Getting there

The hotel recommends booking a shuttle for the most comfortable journey. The driver will wait at the airport exit and take you directly to the hotel entrance.

The region

The site describes Cappadocia as a landscape where balloons float above the fairy chimneys at sunrise, and notes that underground caves in the region have been lived in through many empires.

Practical notes

If you want a cave room, request one by category, since only three of the rooms are underground. The guesthouse is a sensible pick for families who need space, and for anyone who wants a smaller, home-style place in Göreme rather than a hotel with a long facilities list.
