Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel

Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel is a working lighthouse on the coast of Scotland, and only part of it is the lighthouse proper. The hotel has eleven rooms in total, spread across the former keepers’ quarters and further buildings within the grounds, so the stay feels intimate rather than grand. The hotel says it has been featured in The Times and The Guardian, and its own tagline calls it Scotland’s most remarkable coastal stay.

The rooms

Six rooms sit in the original keepers’ quarters: Fulmar, Galloway, Ailsa, Dunskirkloch, Mull of Kintyre and Firth of Cromarty. These are the historic, cosy rooms, and they are the ones that make this a lighthouse stay in the full sense. The other accommodation is newer. Two private suites, the Ballantrae Suite and the Lighthouse Suite, are a short walk from the main building and offer more space and privacy for longer visits. The Stevenson Rooms are refurbished modern rooms, also a short walk away, all with sea views and access to a large lounge, which suits small groups and families who want to stay together.

The setting

The lighthouse stands on a wild stretch of coast, and the sea is the main attraction from nearly every window. The restaurant is part of the hotel’s identity, so dinner here is as much a reason to come as the bedroom.
