Castello di Septe stands on a hill that dominates the Sangro valley at Mozzagrogna, between the Adriatic and the Apennines. The castle has been restored and declared a national monument by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, and it now takes guests in an atmosphere that mixes medieval charm with modern comfort.

History

The castle is an imposing witness of the early Middle Ages. It was built between the 6th and 8th centuries, in the Lombard period, as a strategic stronghold after the destruction of the nearby Roman city of Anxanum, today Lanciano, and it stands on a rocky spur suited to defence. Over the centuries it was the residence of noble families and a military and administrative centre. Between the 11th and 12th centuries it was linked to the Counts of Chieti and the Normans, and it later became church property, as papal documents attest.

The rooms

The hotel has 45 rooms designed to respect the historic architecture while offering contemporary comfort. Six Junior Suites and six Suites stand out for their space.

  • Suite, 31 m² for two, with a view of the garden and pool, a whirlpool bath, soundproofed rooms, air conditioning, flat-screen TV, minibar, safe and a sofa.
  • Junior Suite, 25 m² for two, with a mountain view and a whirlpool bath.
  • Standard double, 16 m², with a garden view.
  • Deluxe double, 22 m².
  • Triple, 18 m², and Quadruple, 20 m².

Food and facilities

The restaurant celebrates the flavours of Abruzzo with creativity and passion, and the castle has a swimming pool.
