Barony Castle Hotel

Barony Castle is an imposing 16th-century castle that has evolved into a traditional hotel in the Scottish Borders. It stands at Eddleston, about 35 minutes and 17 miles south of Edinburgh, on the edge of the Borders, and the town of Peebles on the River Tweed is only a ten-minute drive away. It is an AA four-star hotel with a Rosette-awarded restaurant.

Rooms

The hotel has 82 bedrooms, with single, double and twin rooms, family rooms and six individual suites. The rooms are set up as child friendly, and dogs are allowed in a limited number of bedrooms. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is at 11am. This is a larger hotel than most castle stays, with the practical comforts that implies.

Facilities and grounds

The leisure spa includes a 10-metre pool with a whirlpool bath, a sauna and heated loungers, and the gym has Technogym equipment. A bar lounge serves cocktails and an extensive range of malt whiskies.

The castle is set in 25 acres of grounds. The most unusual feature is the Great Polish Map, which visitors can discover in the grounds. The estate also has a woodland setting that includes a 16th-century altar used for ceremonies.

Around the Borders

Walkers and cyclists have plenty of routes around Glentress and the forests nearby. Traquair House, Rosslyn Chapel and the Go Ape treetop adventure course are all a short drive from the estate.
